Where's the lavender? Jun 18, 2011
By JoeConsumer I'm not convinced this is the same French lavender honey that I've enjoyed so much in France and in the French West Indies. That lavender honey had a rich lavender aroma and taste from the top of the jar down to the last spoonful, and I believe some sort of infusion process was used. But this supposed lavender honey had only a faint lavender scent when the jar was first opened, and then not a hint of lavender taste or smell thereafter. I would bet that they merely spray some lavender essence or fragrance into the jar just before closing it, and that the honey itself is not infused. Perhaps the bees did play in lavender flowers at some point, but this certainly does not seem to show up in the honey. And I didn't just get a bum jar, either--I had jars sent to several other people and they all reported the same thing: faint lavender upon opening, and then just regular honey smell and taste.
To be fair, this is delicious top-quality honey, and I find it much more tasty than most honey found on US supermarket shelves. So it is not a rip-off by any means. BUT, if you are looking for the famous lavender taste and smell like I was, then this is not the honey for you.
